Native Education Alliance

Indigenous Strategies llc promotes and supports the Native Education Alliance, a network of Indian Education Directors and administrators in Pima County who provide specific targeted programming to Native students and their families. The NEA mission statement is "Embracing Native knowledge and culture, NEA will strengthen Native students and families through advocacy of lifelong learning and assist P-20 educators  in the pursuit of culturally responsive educational practices.”

The Native Education Alliance sponsors the Native Youth WARRIOR Showcase in Fall.  This theme derives from the Wilma Mankiller quote "The battle for Indian children will be won in the classroom, not on the streets or on horses.  The students of today are our warriors of tomorrow."  WARRIOR stands for Wisdom and Reciprocity: Respecting the Indigenization of Our Research".  This event features Native American youth speakers giving workshops to their peers and a Poster Session.

NEA also sponsors LandSpeaks in the Spring.  LandSpeaks is a FREE Native language event where all ages can come together to learn from each other and share their traditional languages.  All workshop themes are centered around the concept that Land contains all of our knowledge.

I.S. will be collaborating with UA College of Education and Ironwood Tree Experience on a two year project to examine ways to engage Native American boys in Education, Tribal Lifeways and Land Stewardship.  We are grateful to the Agnese Haury Foundation for allowing us the opportunity to thoughtfully approach this topic.
The Gathering of Educators registration is open!  Click under events and sign up for a day of professional development focused on the needs of educators and administrators of schools with high Native American student populations!
